Nepal's Devastating Earthquake

In April 2015 a series of earthquakes killed nearly 9,000 people and injured 22,000 in this mountainous country on the edge of the Himalayas. It triggered a huge avalanche on Mount Everest killing 21 people. Hundreds of thousands were made homeless and entire villages were flattened. Ancient buildings, including world heritage site Durbar square and stupa temples at Boudhanath and Swayambhunath, were destroyed.
